I came across this video yesterday on my computer and it couldn’t have been better timing. I put it together in about 20 minutes on my last flight home from Africa last year, and now, as I’m sitting here wondering why it’s so important to God that I go back, He shows me it. And He makes it so simple. It’s because He loves them. The South African People. Those kids. The neglected, the abused, the forgotten, the lost, the unloved and the unlovable, the broken, the fallen, the doubting, the running and hiding and hoping and praying…He loves them. He loves them SO MUCH. He cares about them. He knows and cares about what they’re going through. He sees them. He sees them and He hasn’t forgotten them.
And sometimes that’s enough. Let me clarify…God’s love is always enough. God is always enough. But it’s only sometimes that people know how much He really does love them. And when they know, it’s 100% enough. But sometimes, in the midst of a lifetime of nothing but adversity and hardship, you just can’t identify with the fact the God loves you so much because it doesn’t make sense. God is always good and always faithful. It’s who He is. It’s what He does. But sometimes He uses us to prove it to those who wouldn’t keep on believing it otherwise.
I’m going back to Africa because Jesus said to. Because Jesus loves His children there, so I do too. And because He loves His children there, He wants to show them that He is faithful. And He knows they need to see it tangibly. I don’t know why in the world He would choose me, other than the mere fact that I am willing, but He has. It’s humbling and it’s beautiful, to be called purely to be a vessel. And that’s all I want to be. My honest prayer is that no one there would see me at all. These kids don’t need another good-intentioned human in their lives. These kids need to see Jesus in the flesh. And I only want them to see Him.
If my simply being obedient and going back to Africa answers one prayer and proves to one child that God is indeed faithful and cares for them, then it will be worth it.
